# #13 Appalachian Trail – completing the Triple Crown of Hiking – Pavel Sabela (part 1)

Authors: David Czempka

Date: 2023-02-20

Pavel Sabela talks about the 3500 km long Appalachian Trail (AT), with which he completed the Triple Crown of Hiking in the USA (AT, PCT, CDT). After that he still set off on the Arizona Trail.

Pavel Sabela came to see us for the second time. On his latest visit to the USA 🇺🇸, he added the 3 500-kilometer Appalachian Trail (AT) to his collection of long-distance trails, completing the so-called Triple Crown of Hiking 👑, which, besides the AT, consists of the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) and the Continental Divide Trail (CDT).

Pavel had pretty mixed feelings after the AT 🤷, so right after finishing it, he headed off to the 1 300-kilometer Arizona Trail 🏜 to get the bad taste out of his mouth.

We focused the next – and main – part of the conversation on the gear that has proven itself for Pavel over his years of hiking. Anyone who knows Pavel knows that talking gear with him takes a while 🤣, so we split the rest of the gear talk (1 h 30 min) into a second part, which you can look forward to as soon as next week!
