# #2 Continental Divide Trail – a brutal 5000 km across the USA – Pavel Sabela

Authors: David Czempka

Date: 2022-03-22

An interview with Pavel Sabela about the Continental Divide Trail (CDT) crossing, preparation, gear, danger, budget, motivation to keep walking and the strongest experiences.

The Continental Divide Trail is one of the three most famous long-distance trails in the USA. The 5 000-kilometer CDT stretches from the Mexican border all the way to the Canadian border through the Rocky Mountains 🏔️. Of the trio (PCT, AT, CDT), it's the wildest and most remote, and the fewest people finish it each year. It's no accident that the phrase "Embrace the brutality" has become the CDT's unofficial slogan.

Joining us for the second episode is Pavel Sabela, a native of Frýdek-Místek, who set out on the CDT in 2019. And it was epic! We spent a lot of time comparing the CDT with the PCT, which Pavel already has under his belt, talked about gear, and went through the dangers on the trail, the budget you need, the motivation to hike long-distance trails, and of course the strongest experiences. Simply put, a load of practical info 💡 even for those who aren't planning to hike the CDT anytime soon.
