# We sent 70 000 CZK in humanitarian aid to Ukraine

At Gramino we've always held the view that politics and world events don't belong in our company communication, however the war between Russia and Ukraine is a completely different cup of tea.

Tuesday, February 24, 2022 completely changed how we saw the certainties, security, and values of the modern world. At Gramino, we've always held the view that politics and world events don't belong in our company communication, however the war between Russia and Ukraine is a completely different cup of tea. The current situation can affect our personal and professional lives enough that we don't want to just stand by and watch.

I think of Ukraine as the neighbor across the street. In 2018 I spent a few weeks there crossing the Carpathian arc, and thanks to a bout of food poisoning, I got to experience the generosity of the local people firsthand. I have a number of friends in Lviv, Odesa, and other cities from the days I took part in international education projects. For context, as the crow flies, it's only about 300 km from Třinec, our hometown in Czechia, to Ukraine's nearest border – closer than the distance across the entire Czech Republic from east to west. For these reasons, among many others, we **stand with Ukraine in its war against Russia**. Together with **our ambassadors, we decided to support Ukraine** with our own resources, and maybe inspire others to do the same.

The borders are full of volunteers, people are offering their homes to families with children, and human solidarity knows no borders. We started thinking about how to help. **The original idea was to donate sleeping bags and sleeping pads** – not the ultralight pieces from our store, but cheaper alternatives bought from other suppliers, so we could provide as many as possible within our budget. But the situation was changing fast, and so was the list of what was needed. So we decided the most effective thing would be to **financially support organizations** that do everything they can, every day, to provide families fleeing the conflict with everything they need. Humanitarian organizations know exactly how to help affected families, how to organize themselves, and how to put funds to use where they're needed most.
