After 7 years our ultralight hiking gear specialist Travelight is becoming Gramino. Read more about our journey and the reasons for the change.

Travelight is close to our hearts, but it's time to set out on a new adventure ⛰️. After seven amazing years, our **ultralight hiking gear specialist** Travelight is becoming **Gramino**. The ultralight mindset is spreading among travelers, we're doing well and want to keep moving forward, and the Travelight brand is no longer enough for us. After more than half a year of work, we can finally share it all with you 😊.

## Another climb ahead of us

Seven years ago, when my business partner David Hotař and I, with a dose of naivety and minimal business experience, [founded Travelight](/blog/how-travelight-came-about) (by the way, the name Travelight itself came out of a roughly five-minute conversation 😁), we kept our expectations and ambitions down to earth. Our stock, bought mainly with money from a savings plan, fit into a small wardrobe back then. On top of that, a few days after the company was officially founded in February 2017, I even left to study in Portugal for six months. So much for [our beginnings](https://youtu.be/Zf3fTYV2LRc?si=RQkPI0IgFOLH02U4) (video in Czech), which definitely didn't go by the business handbook.

But as true hikers and mountain folk, we **step by step** reached our goals and milestones and then set new, bigger, and more challenging ones. Eventually, we came to the conclusion that **the Travelight name was limiting our further growth**.

That's because we want to offer our carefully curated selection to hikers beyond the Czech Republic and Slovakia too, and eventually launch **our own ultralight products**. For that, we need a brand that's distinctive, easy to remember, has international domains available, and meets other criteria – but the Travelight brand / name didn't meet these requirements.

## It's about people, and they're not changing

From the very beginning, we've wanted to offer the very best ultralight products and clever trekking gear, and that doesn't change with our new name either. Just as important to us is **sharing inspiration** on where to go and **the know-how you need** on packing so you can enjoy your trips with a light backpack and without unnecessary suffering. We'll keep making the **Czech-language podcast** [**Život na treku**](https://open.spotify.com/show/5A0f4nubYOHGYhl97fQXlY) with interesting guests and **organizing** [**our festival**](https://zivotnatreku.cz/) for all the fanatics and lovers of long-distance treks and ultralight gear.

So far, what our customers have valued most is **fast order delivery**, **our helpfulness**, and **the option to ask us about anything** via online chat or over the phone, and together with our team, we plan to stick to that, too.

## Gramino: a real journey with just a few grams

Coming up with a new name and preparing for this change wasn't easy at all. But one thing we knew from the very start: we wanted our new name to keep our DNA, and I believe we pulled that off brilliantly. The name **gramino** combines two words – **gram** and **camino**.

**Gram** refers to the lightness we value so much in gear, and it's also the **key product specification** in our range, which plays a big role in deciding whether we add a given item to our lineup at all.

**Camino** means way, pilgrimage, or trail in Spanish. Most of us also associate *camino* with the legendary pilgrimage route, the *Camino de Santiago*, which for many people is a ticket into the **world of long-distance trekking**. We want to be a similar ticket – or gateway – into the world of ultralight and long-distance treks for our customers.

We built our visual identity on **a typeface with a unique letter g** and spiced up the logotype a little with a natural connection between the letters R and A (a ligature), which for us symbolizes community. **Gramino's symbol is its first letter, g**, which on its own stands for **the gram as a unit of weight** – there's beauty in simplicity.

Our primary colors are **fresh yellow** *corn* and **dark green** *celtic*. Yellow evokes the sun and carries joy and lightness. Dark green complements the yellow beautifully and has a grounding effect.

And finally, a few examples of how our new look could appear on packaging, products, packing tape, in the podcast, and on ad banners. We'd love for you to write to us and tell us what you think of our new identity. 🙏

## Thank you, community!

None of this would be possible without the orders, feedback, and support from all of you – our customers, fans, and friends. So if you're one of them, on behalf of the whole **Gramino** team, I sincerely thank you! If you've got friends who are hikers, trekkers, or walkers, please let them know about this change. Also, **follow us on social media** so you don't miss any new ultralight finds and tips.

**Take care, and see you on the trail!**
