# #19 Ultralight backpacking basics – how to start, benefits, budget – David Czempka

A number of you may be wondering why bother with gear weight at all? How do you start? What are the pros and cons? In this episode we'll answer everything - the so-called Ultralight FAQ.

Our podcast revolves around long-distance treks and ultralight gear, and our guests often set off on adventures hundreds of kilometers long with a tiny backpack. But we haven't yet dedicated an episode to the very basics and the questions many of you may be asking. Why bother with gear weight at all? How do you start, and where can you save the most? What are the pros and cons? So we decided to fix that.

We approached it as a run-through of the most common questions and concerns – a kind of Ultralight FAQ. At the end, we showed what a gear list 📝 might contain and added plenty of tips and a short comment on each item.

We believe even seasoned ultralight enthusiasts will learn something new. We'd love for you to listen and share your feedback. If you don't want to miss future episodes, follow our podcast on your favorite platform.
