Sleeping bag liners
Sleeping bag liners are often an underrated but super useful accessory for any outdoor enthusiast. Not only do they extend the lifespan of your sleeping bag by protecting it from dirt and sweat, but they also boost your thermal comfort and can double as a standalone blanket in warmer conditions or in mountain huts, where your own sleeping bag liner is often required for hygiene reasons.
Why use a sleeping bag liner?
- Increase in thermal comfort: The liner can add a few degrees of warmth, which you'll really appreciate during the colder nights.
- Hygiene and maintenance: The liner protects the inside of your sleeping bag from dirt and extends its lifespan.
- Versatility: During warm nights, you can replace your bulkier sleeping bag with the liner, for example when staying overnight in huts.
Materials of liners:
- Thermolite®: A lightweight synthetic material made from hollow fibers that provides excellent thermal insulation and breathability. The material contains ceramic fibers that absorb your body's infrared radiation and reflect it back to you. It has good stretch and excel in quick drying.
- Silk: A natural material known for its lightness, breathability, and strength. Silk liners are ultralight, easy to pack, and feel nice to the touch.
- CoolMax®: A synthetic material that's known for quick drying, breathability, and stretch properties. Perfect for traveling in warm climates.
- Fleece: A soft and warm material that significantly boosts the thermal comfort of your sleeping bag. The downside might be its bulk and weight.
- Sea to Summit liners are also treated with HeiQ Fresh FFL technology, which doesn’t contain biocides and is super effective at controlling odors. It uses a biologically-based amino sugar polymer to neutralize body odor.
How to choose the right sleeping bag liner?
When choosing a sleeping bag liner, consider the following factors:
- Usage conditions: For cooler conditions, go for warmer materials like Thermolite® or fleece. For warmer conditions, silk or CoolMax® liners are a good choice.
- Weight and packability: If low weight and small packed dimensions are important to you, go for silk liners.
- Shape and size: Sea To Summit offers liners in two sizes. Choose based on how tall you are or according to the size of your sleeping bag.
