# Marek Rybář – photographer, traveler and long-distance trekker

## Marek Rybář

A professional photographer, northern lights hunter, traveler and part-time writer who loves sharing his experiences and practical trail knowledge with the world.

## Marek Rybář

Marek's passion for travel and photography also led him to long-distance treks, and that in turn led us to him. One thing led to another and he became our ambassador. Just like us, Marek **comes from the Beskydy Mountains**, but he spends most of the year **traveling and working abroad** – in winter, for example, as a **northern lights hunter** in the Norwegian city of Tromsø. He makes his living as a **professional photographer**, and you'll find some of his photos on our blog and in our shop. He also likes to **write on his blog** about his experiences and practical takeaways from the trips and long-distance treks he has walked.

### What's his main travel motto?

*"Perfection is achieved not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away." – Antoine de Saint-Exupéry*

### What are his biggest travel achievements?

**Fishermen's Trail – Portugal – approx. 220 km**

A fishermen's path running along the Atlantic coast and one of the most beautiful coastal treks in Europe. This time Marek left the tent, sleeping bag and sleeping pad at home and made every stage more comfortable with a proper bed for the night.

**Crossing the Pyrenees on the GR 11 – Spain – approx. 840 km**

The GR 11 long-distance trek is one of the best-known mountain routes in Europe. It runs through the Spanish Pyrenees and owes its popularity above all to the varied, wild nature you won't easily find in other European mountains. Marek wrote a short [guide](https://marekrybar.cz/pruvodce-gr-11-dalkovy-prechod-spanelskych-pyreneji/) to the GR 11 on his blog, and more recently a very detailed e-book you can buy [here](https://marekrybar.cz/produkt/ebook-pyrenejska-gr-11/) (both in Czech).

**Tour du Mont Blanc – France, Italy, Switzerland – approx. 170 km**

This trek, also known by the abbreviation TMB and reputedly the most beautiful mountain trek in Europe, winds through three European countries. Along the route you can look forward to breathtaking views of four-thousanders, deep valleys, massive glaciers and endless green. Walking all the way around the highest mountain in the Alps is, according to Marek, simply a once-in-a-lifetime experience. He wrote about his TMB crossing [here](https://marekrybar.cz/tour-du-mont-blanc/).

**Alta Via 1 – Italy – approx. 110 km**

Another of the shorter long-distance trails, and one of the most beautiful in Europe. A gorgeous mountain crossing with views that will undoubtedly captivate you. This highly varied route runs past the most beautiful peaks and rock formations in the very heart of the Italian Dolomites. You can read more about Marek's AV1 crossing [here](https://marekrybar.cz/alta-via-1-dolomity/).

**Crossing Madeira – Portugal – approx. 120 km**

Marek's very first solo trip abroad, and his first trek, was the crossing of Madeira, a small Portuguese island in the Atlantic Ocean where the temperature stays pleasant all year round. Although no official trail crosses the whole island, Marek put together his own route linking various paths so that he could also see all the places he wanted to visit on Madeira. His [guide and trip notes](https://marekrybar.cz/prechod-madeiry/) have already inspired plenty of Czechs to walk across Madeira themselves.

Marek has a few more walking trips under his belt, such as the [Laugavegur trek](https://marekrybar.cz/laugavegur-trek-island/) in Iceland, the [GR 131 on Tenerife](https://marekrybar.cz/zapisky-z-cest-pesky-pres-tenerife-trasou-gr-131/) or part of the [Way of St. James](https://marekrybar.cz/pruvodce-sarria-santiago-de-compostela/) (Camino de Santiago). On his [blog](https://marekrybar.cz/blog/) you'll also find guides to other trips, not just long-distance trails (the Azores, Morocco, Iceland and more).
