DexShell boasts a wide range of outdoor accessories like waterproof socks, waterproof gloves, and waterproof hats. These products are designed for all outdoor activities that require extra protection in tough terrain and against the elements (rain, snow, mud...).
For over 15 years, the brand DexShell specializes exclusively in the development and production of waterproof socks and is among the main pioneers in this segment. Gradually, it has also expanded its range to include gloves and hats. DexShell products are designed for anyone with an increased need for protection of clothing against the elements during all kinds of outdoor activities. You can push the boundaries of your experiences with them and deepen your enjoyment without significantly compromising comfort, even in challenging terrain and weather.
Waterproof accessories are useful not just for hikers and mountaineers, but also for runners, cyclists, motorcyclists, hunters, and anglers, or even for pet owners who don’t shy away from walks, even in the toughest outdoor conditions.
What are waterproof accessories good for?
Waterproof socks or gloves come in handy anywhere you might get wet, face bad weather, tackle tough terrain, or just feel cold in your feet. Since the membrane doesn't let water in and keeps the wind out, they're way warmer than regular socks. Personally, we often use socks made for trail running shoes when crossing mountains in cold weather and winter, which we'd often think twice about in regular socks. They work great in wet terrain, in the rain, or in the snow. On long hikes, you'll avoid blisters from walking around with wet feet. Even with their waterproofing, the socks still maintain good breathability.
Materials and three-layer construction
DexShell products use a three-layer sandwich construction:
- Outer layer: it has to be primarily abrasion-resistant, so it's most often made from a fabric with a majority share of polyamide (nylon).
- Mid-layer – membrane: a waterproof membrane is inserted (laminated) between the outer layer and the inner layer, which protect it from both sides. It’s a branded hydrophilic membrane Porelle® with a water column of over 10 000 mm and breathability of over 15 000 g/m2/24 h.
- Inner layer: the inner layer takes care of absorption, moisture wicking, and user comfort. Here, the material already varies from model to model. DexShell products use merino wool, Coolmax with added silver ions, bamboo, or drirelease material as a combination of merino wool and synthetic fibers.
Thanks to the microdot lamination of the outer and inner layer to a waterproof membrane, DexShell products offer you amazing freedom. They’re flexible, comfortable, and don’t restrict you at all during active movement in the field.
How to choose waterproof socks
Even though at first glance some models of DexShell waterproof socks may appear to differ only in color, the reality is quite different. While all socks share the same three-layer construction, they vary in sock height, materials used, and the thickness of the inner layer.
Height: DexShell waterproof socks are available in five different heights. The shortest ones are about the same height as regular socks we're used to. In the case of ankle-height socks, there’s a risk that water could enter from above in certain situations, which would largely defeat the purpose of waterproof socks – that’s why even the shortest models are relatively tall.
Thickness of the inner layer: You should choose the thickness of your socks not just based on the season but also on the activity. There's a big difference whether you're getting socks for a physically demanding activity (hiking, running) or something more static (photography, really slow walks). To evaluate how warm the socks are, DexShell created the Thermal Guideline scale. Each model is rated from one to five (5/5 – the warmest). Don't forget that even the thinnest socks (1/5) are thicker and warmer than regular socks. After all, they have 3 layers.

How to take care of DexShell products
Washing: You can wash the socks in the washing machine with regular laundry detergents on a gentle wash cycle at a max temperature of 40°C, or by hand.
Drying: You shouldn’t dry your socks directly on a heat source like a fireplace or radiator, just close by. Dry your socks by hanging them. First, let them dry from the inside, then turn them inside out and dry them from the outside. Don’t wring out your socks.
