Montane
The British brand Montane has become synonymous with super lightweight and breathable clothing and gear over time. They strongly promote the Further – Faster style (go further, faster). They design their products for endurance sports and activities in challenging conditions, focusing on every detail, minimal weight, packability, and durability.
Brand Montane with its headquarters in Scotland, it's now primarily known for its lightweight, functional, and durable clothing for all outdoor endurance sports and activities. So it's no wonder it's super popular among trail runners and long-distance hikers. It features the use of modern, lightweight, waterproof, and breathable materials. The simple design of the clothing is timeless and won't get old anytime soon. Every detail is designed to be functional and tough as nails. All products are made so that users can rely on them even in the most challenging conditions.
From extreme to extreme
The history of Montane dates back to the 90s of the 20th century, when its founders Chris Roff and Jake Doxat met on a three-month expedition in southern Chile. The brand was then established in the UK with the aim of offering products that would meet the extreme demands of mountain guides, rescuers, and adventurers. Today, Montane supports a number of world-renowned endurance athletes. For example, they back Ben Saunders, who in 2002 became the youngest person in the world to ski to the North Pole. In addition, Montane also sponsors various research expeditions to all corners of the globe and organizes extreme races in mountain biking, skiing, and mountain ultramarathons. One example is the extreme race in the freezing cold, the Yukon Arctic Ultra (100/300/430 miles) for mountain bikers, skiers, and runners, which was also attended by Jan Venca Francke, one of the guests on our podcast Life on the Trek. You can listen to the interview with him here.
Responsibility and sustainability
The brand Montane puts a big emphasis on sustainability and ethical manufacturing. They aim to minimize their impact on the environment and use recycled materials wherever they can. They try to design and produce their products to be durable so they don’t end up in landfills. The brand's main slogan “Further. Faster.” has been changed regarding sustainability to “Further. Forever.”. Montane also collaborates with several conservation organizations. Their products are primarily intended for extreme environments and wild areas, so they care about preserving them too.
Montane and Gramino
The Montane brand is already a staple in our lineup. We've got years of experience with it ourselves, and their clothing has impressed both us and our ambassadors and it's practically part of all your trips and expeditions throughout the year. For example, hoodies made of Protium series made from Thermo Grid material, which features brushed fibers with a grid structure on the inside, we've become seriously attached to. We consider this construction almost a must-have for every outdoor activity sweatshirt.
Ultralight backpacks Trailblazer with a perfect weight/price/performance ratio, these are now legendary and will be appreciated by anyone who wants to lighten their gear without compromising on comfort. In the 2024 collection, the backpacks in this line have undergone further improvements in design and functionality, and with a focus on sustainability, they're now also made from recycled materials.
In Montane's offer, you'll also find lightweight waterproof jackets (e.g. Phase Nano Jacket), down jackets (e.g., our favorite Anti-Freeze Hoodie or even warmer Anti-Freeze XT Hoodie), technical pants (e.g. Dynamo Pants) and other pieces of clothing and accessories. There are also functional and breathable t-shirts from the line Dart and Dart Lite.
