Copper Spur HV UL4 is a very popular ultralight double-wall tent for four people from the American brand Big Agnes. If you value not only low weight but also high comfort and enjoy a lot of features, this is the right choice.
What is specific about the product?
Ultralight and very comfortable three-season tent for four people with two doors, vestibules, and the option to set up awnings.
Features
Thanks to the two zippers at the entrance of the rainfly, you can set up an awning above the vestibule.
The tent is designed for four people and has two entrances and two vestibules. Therefore, the sleepers have enough space for their equipment. All zippers have two sliders and are equipped with ergonomic pulls. The rainfly has zippers protected by a storm flap with Velcro.
With the Copper Spur, you will definitely appreciate plenty of pockets and storage space. The largest pocket (the so-called 3D bin) is located at the ceiling above your feet. Three smaller flat pockets are situated above your head. One of these pockets has an opening in the corner. Here at Big Agnes, they thought of those who like to listen to music – you can put your mobile in the upper pocket and run the headphone cable through the opening. You will also find two more small flat pockets at the entrances on the sides. There are also several loops for hanging necessary equipment or drying clothes.
The rainfly is not pulled down to the ground, ensuring better air circulation and minimizing the chance of internal condensation. However, to prevent water from splashing into the tent during heavier rains, the tent body (inner tent) is equipped with waterproof material on the sides from the ground up to a height of approximately 50 cm. The rainfly is equipped with one vent with a mosquito net.
The construction of the tent is simpler thanks to the well-thought-out TipLok Tent Buckle™ device in the corners of the tent, which has three functions: securing the pole structure, tensioning and attaching the rainfly to the tent body, and staking.
For extra stability, there are Velcro straps on the inner side of the rainfly, with which you can attach the rainfly to the structure.
The tent can also be used in Fast Fly mode, where you leave the inner tent at home and head out only with the structure, rainfly, and stakes. This way you can achieve a beautiful weight of 1 890 grams. However, you will need an original footprint, which is not included in the package. The footprint will also extend the lifespan of the sleeping area floor, so it’s worth having. If you don't want to purchase a footprint, consider at least using a tyvek.
The tent construction is simple and quick, thanks to the single-pole design made of lightweight and durable DAC Featherlite aluminum pole.
Awning-style vestibules
The new versions of the Copper Spur tents allow you to create an awning-style vestibule from the rainfly, which you can set up on trekking poles or other poles or branches.
This awning, or if you prefer canopy, will provide you with shade and a chill zone on hot days. During warmer nights, you have excellent ventilation, and you can keep your gear in the vestibules, and still be protected from the dew.
You can easily adjust the tent to your needs and mood.
Materials and construction
The rainfly and the tent body are constructed from silicone-coated double ripstop nylon, which is additionally treated with a PU coating on the inside. The combination of these two treatments (silicone + coating) ensures excellent waterproofing. The qualities of this tent are indeed reflected by annual studies of the most commonly used equipment in long-distance races, in which it has been placing in the TOP 5 for several years in a row.
All seams are taped with a waterproof polyurethane tape free of solvents (PVC and VOC free). There is no need of additional seam sealing or similar procedure.
The tent structure is made up of one durable DAC Featherlite NFL pole. The tent construction is free-standing.
The new ultralight and durable Dirt Dagger UL Tent Stakes are made of aluminum, feature a patented I-beam construction, and are 15 cm long.
