Big Agnes Copper Spur UL2 XL
Copper Spur UL2 XL is one of the best-selling ultralight tents for two people from the American brand Big Agnes in an extended version. If you care about high comfort as well as low weight, this is the right choice. The tent has a rectangular shape, above-standard dimensions, and is equipped with plenty of features. The tent material now features the innovative HyperBead™ technology, which makes it even lighter, stronger, and more waterproof.

Features
The new Copper Spur tent models for 2025 feature the innovative HyperBead™ technology, which improves material strength, boosts waterproofing, and also reduces weight (more info below).
The XL model has a rectangular, non-tapered shape with an increase in length by 20 cm, width by 5 cm, and height at the head by 2 cm compared to the tent Copper Spur UL2.
Thanks to the two zippers at the entrance of the rainfly, you can set up an awning over the vestibules using trekking poles, or other poles or branches. On hot days, the awning will give you shade, and during warmer nights, it provides great ventilation while also protecting you from dew.
The tent has 2 side doors with 2 spacious vestibules. This way, both sleepers have their own entrance and plenty of space for gear. All the zippers have two sliders and are equipped with ergonomic pulls. The rainfly has zippers protected by a storm flap with Velcro. Reflective guy lines make setting it up easier for you both day and night.
Setting up the tent is easier thanks to the smart TipLok Tent Buckle™ at the corners, which has three functions: securing the pole structure, tensioning and attaching the rainfly to the tent body, and staking it down.
You'll definitely appreciate the plenty of pockets and storage space in the Copper Spur. The biggest pocket (the so-called 3D bin) is up at the ceiling above your feet. There are also smaller flat pockets above your head and on the sides of the inner tent. Inside the tent, you'll also find loops for attaching gear lofts and other gear.
The rainfly isn't pulled all the way to the ground, which ensures better air circulation and minimizes the chance of internal condensation. However, to keep water from splashing into the tent during heavier rains, the tent body (inner tent) is equipped with waterproof material on the sides from the ground up to about 50 cm high.
The rainfly is equipped with ventilation openings above both doors. Good ventilation is also ensured thanks to two sliders that you can partially open the zipper from the bottom and the top. Securing the open doors of the inner tent allows you to use the simple Quick Stash door keeper.
To ensure extra stability, there are Velcro straps on the inside of the rainfly, which you use to attach the rainfly to the frame. The tent setup is simple and quick thanks to the lightweight and durable DAC Featherlite aluminum pole structure.
You can also use the tent in Fast Fly mode, where you leave the tent body (inner tent) at home and just take the poles, rainfly, and stakes. That way, you'll hit a nice weight of 1 040 grams. But you'll need original footprint that’s not included in the package. The footprint will also extend the life of the tent body. If you don’t want to get a footprint, at least consider using tyvek.
You’ll also get a practical compression EZ Pack Stuff Sack with a big longitudinal opening and a compression closure for easy and quick packing.
HyperBead™ technology
In 2025, Big Agnes is bringing you a new innovative material treatment technology for ultralight tents – HyperBead™. Thanks to this advanced waterproof treatment, the tents are lighter, stronger, and more durable than ever before. HyperBead™ is free from PFAS and other harmful substances, offering a safer and more sustainable alternative to standard water-repellent treatments without any negative impact on health and the environment.
Compared to regular materials, tents with HyperBead™ technology have:
- 6% lower weight – even lighter ultralight tents,
- 50% higher strength – better tear resistance,
- 25% higher waterproofness – lasting protection without the need for reproofing.
Unlike regular DWR treatments, HyperBead™ is impermeable at a molecular level, so it maintains its effectiveness throughout the tent's lifespan. It also stretches less when wet, which contributes to better stability and a longer lifespan of the material.

- Waterproof seams – solvent-free polyurethane tape (contains no PVC or VOCs). All seams are taped, so you won't have to deal with any additional seam sealing or anything like that.
- Stakes – 8 x 6” Dirt Dagger™ UL Stakes (length 15 cm)
- The tent is free-standing. This means it can stand on its own even without being anchored down with stakes.
