Copper Spur UL2 is one of the best-selling ultralight tents for two people from the American brand Big Agnes. If you appreciate not just low weight but also maximum comfort, this is the right choice for you. The tent is packed with features, like the ability to set up an awning over the entrance. The tent material is now equipped with the innovative HyperBead™ technology, making it even lighter, stronger, and more waterproof.

Features
The new Copper Spur tent models for 2025 feature the innovative HyperBead™ technology, which enhances material strength, increases water resistance, and reduces weight at the same time (more info below).
Thanks to the two zippers at the entrance on the rainfly, you can set up an awning over the vestibules using trekking poles, or other poles or branches. On hot days, the awning will give you shade, and during warmer nights, it provides great ventilation while also protecting you from the dew.
The tent has 2 side entrances with 2 spacious vestibules. Both sleepers have their own entrance and enough space for gear. All zippers have two sliders and are fitted with ergonomic pulls. The rainfly features zippers protected by a storm flap with Velcro. Reflective guy lines will make setup easier for you both day and night.
Setting up the tent is easier thanks to the clever TipLok Tent Buckle™ in the tent corners, which has three functions: securing the pole structure, tensioning and attaching the rainfly to the tent body, and staking it down.
You'll definitely appreciate the plenty of pockets and storage space in the Copper Spur tent. The biggest pocket (the so-called 3D bin) is located at the ceiling above your feet. You'll find additional smaller flat pockets above your head and on the sides of the inner tent. Inside the tent, there are also loops for attaching gear lofts and other gear.
The rainfly doesn’t reach all the way to the ground, which ensures better air circulation and minimizes the chance of internal condensation. But to prevent water from splashing into the tent during heavier rain, the tent body (inner tent) is lined on the sides with waterproof material from the ground up to about 50 cm high.
The rainfly is equipped with vents above both doors. Good ventilation is also ensured thanks to two zipper sliders, which you can open the zipper from the bottom and the top. Securing the open doors of the inner tent allows you a simple Quick Stash door keeper.
To ensure extra stability, there are Velcro strips on the inner side of the rainfly that let you connect the rainfly to the structure. Setting up the tent is simple and quick thanks to the lightweight and durable DAC Featherlite aluminum pole construction.
You can also use the tent in Fast Fly mode, where you leave the sleeping area (inner tent) at home and just head out with the poles, rainfly, and stakes. This way, you'll get to a nice weight of 955 grams. However, you'll need original footprint, which is not included in the package. The footprint will also extend the life of the tent body. If you don’t want to get a footprint, at least consider using tyvek.
You'll also get a practical compression EZ Pack Stuff Sack with a large longitudinal opening and a compression closure for easy and quick packing.
HyperBead™ technology
For ultralight tents in 2025, Big Agnes is bringing a new innovative fabric treatment technology – HyperBead™. Thanks to this advanced waterproof treatment, the tents are lighter, stronger, and more durable than ever before. HyperBead™ contains no PFAS or other harmful substances, offering a safer and more sustainable alternative to standard water-repellent treatments without the negative impact on health and the environment.
Compared to regular materials, tents with HyperBead™ technology have:
- 6% lower weight – even lighter ultralight tents,
- 50% higher strength – better tear resistance,
- 25% higher water resistance – lasting protection without the need for re-waterproofing.
Unlike regular DWR treatments, HyperBead™ is impermeable at the molecular level, so it maintains its effectiveness throughout the tent's lifespan. At the same time, it stretches less when damp, which contributes to better stability and longer material life.

- Waterproof seams – solvent-free polyurethane tape (contains no PVC or VOCs). All seams are taped, so you won’t have to deal with any extra seam sealing or anything like that.
- Stakes – 8 x 6” Dirt Dagger™ UL Stakes (length 15 cm)
- The tent is free-standing. That means it can stand alone even without being staked down with pegs.
- Setting up the tent is simple and intuitive.
