Big Agnes Copper Spur UL3
Copper Spur UL3 is one of the best-selling ultralight tents for three people from the American brand Big Agnes. If you're into not just low weight but also maximum comfort, this is the right choice for you. The tent comes with a ton of features, like the option to set up an awning over the entrance. Plus, the tent material is now equipped with the innovative HyperBead™ technology, making it even lighter, stronger, and more waterproof.

Features
The new Copper Spur tent models for 2025 feature innovative HyperBead™ technology, which improves material strength, enhances waterproofness, and simultaneously reduces weight (more info below).
Thanks to the two zippers at the entrance on the rainfly, you can set up an awning over the vestibules using trekking poles, or other poles or branches. On hot days, the awning gives you shade and during warmer nights, it provides great ventilation while also protecting you from dew.
The tent is meant for 3 people and has 2 side doors and 2 vestibules. Sleepers will have enough space for their gear too. All zippers have two sliders and come with ergonomic pulls. The rainfly has zippers protected by a storm flap with Velcro. Reflective guy lines make setting it up easy both day and night.
Setting up the tent is easier thanks to the clever TipLok Tent Buckle™ in the corners, which has three functions: securing the pole structure, attaching and tensioning the rainfly to the tent body, and staking it down.
You'll definitely appreciate the plenty of pockets and storage space in the Copper Spur tent. The biggest pocket (the so-called 3D bin) is up at the ceiling, right above your feet. You’ll find more smaller flat pockets above your head and on the sides of the inner tent. Inside the tent, there are also loops for connecting gear lofts and other gear.
The rainfly isn't fully extended to the ground, which ensures better air circulation and minimizes the chances of internal condensation. However, to keep water from spraying into the tent during heavy rains, the inner tent (tent body) is equipped with waterproof material on the sides from the ground up to about 50 cm high.
The rainfly is equipped with vent openings above both entrances. Good ventilation is also ensured by the two zipper sliders that you can unzip from the bottom and the top. Securing the open doors of the inner tent is made easy with the Quick Stash door keeper.
For extra stability, there are Velcro strips on the inner side of the rainfly, which let you connect the rainfly to the frame. Setting up the tent is simple and quick thanks to the lightweight and durable DAC Featherlite aluminum pole construction.
You can also use the tent in Fast Fly mode, where you leave the tent body (inner tent) at home and head out with just the poles, rainfly, and stakes. This way, you'll get down to a nice weight of 1 230 grams. But you'll need original footprint, which is not included in the package. The footprint will also extend the lifespan of the tent body. If you don't want to buy a footprint, at least consider using tyvek.
You’ll also get a practical compression EZ Pack Stuff Sack with a big longitudinal opening and compression closure for easy and quick packing.
HyperBead™ technology
In the ultralight tents for 2025, Big Agnes brings a new innovative material treatment technology – HyperBead™. Thanks to this advanced waterproof treatment, the tents are lighter, stronger, and more durable than ever before. HyperBead™ contains no PFAS or other harmful substances, offering a safer and more sustainable alternative to standard water-repellent treatments without a negative impact on health and the environment.
Compared to regular materials, tents with HyperBead™ technology have:
- 6% lower weight – even lighter ultralight tents,
- 50% higher strength – better tear resistance,
- 25% higher waterproofness – lasting protection without the need for re-waterproofing.
Unlike regular DWR treatments, HyperBead™ is impermeable at the molecular level, so it maintains its effectiveness throughout the tent's lifespan. At the same time, it stretches less when wet, contributing to better stability and a longer life for the material.

- The tent is free-standing. That means it can stand on its own even without being secured with stakes.
