Weight
An ultralight yet durable backpack with a 26-liter capacity and a weight of just 570 grams, designed for day hikes or shorter multi-day treks. This is the 2023 updated model of the proven Virga 26 from the popular brand Granite Gear. For multi-day hikes, it is best suited for those who have their gear perfectly optimized in the spirit of ultralight backpacking.

The Granite Gear Virga3 26 is perfect for full-day hikes or shorter summer treks, such as weekend adventures, particularly for ultralight enthusiasts with a well-optimized gear setup.
Like its predecessor, the Virga 26, this backpack is frameless and has no padded back panel, so careful packing is essential for multi-day trips. Placing soft items toward the back of the pack is ideal. An inflatable sleeping pad folded into a rectangular shape and positioned against your back works perfectly. Alternatively, a section of a foam sleeping pad can be used, which doubles as a seat pad when needed.
Lightweight and compact, the backpack can be rolled into a relatively small bundle, making it a great secondary pack for travel.

As expected from Granite Gear, the Virga3 26 is built with durability in mind. The backpack is made from high-tenacity Robic® nylon (100D; 210D), a material known for its high water resistance, even though it is not entirely waterproof. Additionally, the pack features a DWR coating for extra water repellency.
The eco-friendly Undyed color variant utilizes 98% undyed fabrics and materials, reducing water consumption by 55%. However, natural yellowing of the fabric may occur over time as a result of exposure to light and elements.
Despite its smaller capacity, the backpack's shoulder straps are well-padded, providing excellent comfort. However, the pack is not designed to carry loads exceeding 9 kg, which should not be an issue for ultralight enthusiasts even on shorter multi-day hikes.
The stretch mesh pockets, often a weak point in many backpacks, are made from a more robust, higher-density fabric, reducing the likelihood of holes forming over time. The backpack is meticulously crafted, with high-quality stitching, buckles, and straps, ensuring long-lasting performance.

Apart from the materials used, the Virga3 differs from its predecessor in two significant ways. The first improvement is the addition of elastic loops on the shoulder straps for securing a water bottle. The second upgrade is the inclusion of two sternum straps, which ensure the backpack stays firmly in place even during fast-paced walks or mountain running. Both straps are removable, so if you don’t need them, you can save a few extra grams.
The backpack is equipped with a practical roll-top closure that makes accessing the contents easy and allows you to adjust the pack’s volume according to your needs. When carrying fewer items, you can roll it lower to save space. Inside the pack, you’ll find a loop for hanging a hydration bladder and a port for the drinking tube.
On the front, there is a large stretch kangaroo pocket, ideal for a waterproof jacket, trowel, water filter, or other gear you need to access quickly. The backpack also features two durable side pockets made of nylon, which are easily accessible while walking and perfectly fit water bottles.
The pack has an adjustable torso length from 45 to 53 cm. You can also choose between two shoulder strap width settings. Load-lifter straps allow you to pull the backpack closer to your body for better balance and weight distribution. The backpack is also equipped with practical compression straps on the front and sides to adjust the pack's volume or secure additional items.
The pack includes a simple hip belt with a buckle, which is designed more for stabilizing the pack on your back than transferring the load. It is removable, making it suitable for ultralight setups. If you like having small essentials or snacks within reach, you can attach smaller detachable hip belt pockets to it or complement the backpack with a practical fanny pack.
