Aero 28 backpack from a popular American brand Hyperlite Mountain Gear is meant for anyone who wants to move quickly and efficiently in the mountains - while also being comfortable.
The internal volume of the Aero backpack is 28 liters, and the external pockets can hold additional gear with a volume of up to 8,5 liters. It’s clear that this backpack is primarily designed for quick, light actions (so-called fastpacking), FKT attempts, single-day outings, but also for multi-day treks, as long as you’ve got your gear thought out in detail, compact, and ultralight, so you can comfortably pack everything you need for several days of hiking.
The backpack is durable, comfortable, adaptable, reliable, and thoughtfully designed down to the smallest details. The vest-style shoulder straps fit your body perfectly, eliminate bouncing, and provide quick access to water, snacks, and your phone. Plenty of external pockets make it easy to organize and quickly grab your gear without having to stop. The roll-top closure with a compression strap helps adjust the volume while keeping your gear secure in place.
Features – construction
- Durability and waterproofness – thanks to the Dyneema material used and the taped back panel, the backpack is super sturdy, tear-resistant, and water-resistant.
- Vest system with shoulder straps – keeps it stable on your body while running or walking fast. The straps are wider, distribute the weight well, and allow for comfortable movement without chafing.
- Frameless construction – even though it requires a bit more attention when packing, it also brings comfort, flexibility, and a great fit to your body shape. The backpack has thin removable padding inside (3 mm EVA foam).
- Roll-top closure – one main compartment with a roll-top closure and one top compression strap to adjust to the current volume of your gear and to attach extra equipment on the outside.
- External loops – the system of side and front loops lets you attach your ice axe, trekking poles, tent poles, or other gear as needed.
- Hydration bladder compatibility – the backpack is compatible with the use of a hydration bladder, there's an opening between the shoulder straps for routing the hose.
Features – pockets and straps
- Shoulder straps with pockets – wide running vest-style shoulder straps featuring 2 pockets for water bottles, 2 additional stretchy pockets for snacks or other small items, and 1 zippered pocket for your phone.
- Side pockets – spacious, deep, and with a slanted access that you can easily reach even while walking, so you don't have to take the backpack off your back.
- Front stretch pocket – a spacious external pocket made from Dyneema® Stretch Mesh, perfect for your waterproof jacket, trowel, stakes, and similar gear.
- Bottom stretch pocket (a.k.a. trash pocket) – perfect for easy access to a snack, waterproof jacket, or trash.
- Three adjustable chest straps (2 from webbing, 1 elastic) – you can move all the chest straps up/down or remove them and leave them at home.
- Hip strap – removable 2,5 cm wide strap for better stabilization while moving.
- Compression straps (4 side removable and 2 vertical) – let you cinch the backpack down according to its current size and also secure gear on the outside.
Materials
Dyneema® fiber is a revolutionary material not just in the outdoor world. It has an impressive strength-to-weight ratio, making it the strongest fiber in the world. Dyneema® fibers are 15x stronger than high-quality steel, lightweight, abrasion-resistant, waterproof, and resistant to UV radiation and chemicals.
The HMG Aero 28 backpack (in both white and black) is made from a hybrid composite fabric, Dyneema® – Dyneema® Composite Hybrid 3.8 (120 g/m², DCH50) and Dyneema® Composite Hybrid 5.1 (170 g/m², DCH150) on the bottom and the back panel.
This material is made by merging and laminating other layers with Dyneema® fibers and stands out for its high abrasion resistance, exceptional strength, excellent rip-stop properties, and moisture impermeability.
This material is 100% waterproof on its own, but the stitching creates tiny holes. Even though most seams in the backpack are taped, you can't call it completely waterproof. For full protection against water and moisture, we recommend supplementing the backpack with waterproof bags.
