After the huge success of the Unbound series backpacks (with a volume of 40 liters or 55 liters) for all thru-hikers and ultralight enthusiasts, Hyperlite Mountain Gear has come up with a reliable, versatile, and comfy wilderness shelter – the ultralight single-wall tent Unbound 2.
The Unbound 2 tent is designed for 1–2 people. Two people can comfortably sleep in it without overlapping standard-sized sleeping pads, and they don't have to awkwardly crawl over each other since the tent has two side entrances. In the case of long-distance trails (like for example Pacific Crest Trail) is often used by just one person, but it has a luxurious interior space for storing your backpack and all your stuff.
Thanks to the chosen 3D construction of the sidewalls, there’s more space in the tent around your head and feet. Plus, you can pull the outer part of the tent pretty close to the ground, making it super durable even in demanding weather, like heavy rain or wind.
The tent is made from a proven and 100% waterproof Dyneema material, which is extremely lightweight yet durable. Another advantage of Dyneema (UHMWPE) is that its fibers are hydrophobic and don't absorb water. The weight of the tent is an incredible 624 grams. The tent is not free-standing – it sets up on two trekking poles (ranging from 115-125 cm) with at least 6 tent stakes (ideally 8 for maximum stability). Stakes even trekking poles are not included. To increase the durability of the tent's floor and extend its lifespan, we recommend using a Tyvek or another footprint or groundsheet.

Material Dyneema®
Dyneema® fiber is a revolutionary material not just in the outdoor world. It has an impressive strength-to-weight ratio, making it the strongest fiber in the world. Dyneema® fibers are 15x stronger than high-quality steel. They’re lightweight, abrasion-resistant, waterproof, and resistant to UV radiation and chemicals.
The Unbound 2 tent from HMG is constructed from composite fabric Dyneema® – Dyneema® Composite Fabric 0.55 (the outer tent layer) and Dyneema® Composite Fabric 0.96 (the footprint), which are created by merging and laminating additional layers with Dyneema® fibers. Both of these materials excel in their low weight, high abrasion resistance, exceptional strength, outstanding rip-stop properties, and waterproofness. The most stressed parts of the tent are further reinforced.
All the seams are taped.
