Topo trail running shoes are among the most popular for hiking the long-distance trails – and for good reason. They stand out with their low or zero drop, lightweight construction, and a wide toe box. The Terraventure 4 model is one of our favorites, thanks to its durable yet breathable upper, the excellently gripping Vibram® Megagrip outsole, and a comfortable 3 mm drop.
What is specific about the product?

Comfortable, lightweight, spacious, yet durable – these are our impressions of wearing the Terraventure model. The 4th generation of this line retains its medium level of cushioning and relies on the Vibram® Megagrip outsole, known for its outstanding traction even on wet rocky surfaces. The outsole also features a protective layer (rock plate) in the forefoot, shielding you from sharp rocks and roots.
The 3 mm drop is an ideal compromise for those who prefer a natural foot strike but don’t want a zero drop at the same time. If you prefer a zero drop, check out the Pursuit 2 model.
The upper of the shoe is made of woven fabric that combines breathability and durability. It also features a wide toe box that allows for natural toe and foot splay, making the Pursuit a perfect choice not only for running but also for hiking long-distance trails.

Shoe width is indicated by letters that represent the amount of space inside the shoe. B is considered the standard width for women's shoes, while D is the common width for men's models. E and 2E (EE) indicate wider options, with 2E being an extra wide fit. If you often struggle with narrow shoes or need more room for your toes, choosing an E or 2E width will give you greater comfort.
Topo Athletic offers a wider toe box in the standard version than most mainstream brands, giving your toes plenty of room for natural movement. The standard width provides a comfortable yet secure fit (equivalent to a D width in the toe area and B in the midfoot and heel).
If you have wider feet or want even more room, choose the Wide version (equivalent to an E width in the toe box and D width in the midfoot and heel). Both versions provide a secure fit and solid support to keep your foot from slipping, even during dynamic movement.
Despite its relatively low weight – 244 grams in EU size 38, this is no fragile slipper.
The Terraventure 4 is a robust trail shoe with a solid tread that can handle tough terrain and keep you stable. Several members of our Gramino team (David, Míša, and Peťa) have sworn by Topo trail running shoes for the past few years.
We've put Topo Athletic shoes to the test on a number of treks:
Light winter crossings paired with DexShell waterproof socks.
Mountain trekking in Kyrgyzstan, where the terrain consisted mainly of dusty trails, rocky paths, and scree slopes.
Long-distance thru-hiking: Peťa completed the Pacific Crest Trail a few years ago and, in 2024, hiked the Continental Divide Trail in Topo trail shoes.
In all these cases, they have proven themselves. That’s why we’re thrilled to welcome them to our Gramino collection!
