CrunchIt™ Fuel Canister Recycling Tool by Jetboil is a small and practical tool for disposing of empty gas canisters, allowing you to recycle them with ease ♻️. It's ideal for use with empty Jetboil Jetpower canisters (100g, 230g, 450g) or with gas canisters from other brands with a standard screw threaded valve.
Gas canisters are pressurized containers and therefore pose certain risks. As is well known, they cannot be transported by plane, not even in checked luggage. To recycle an empty canister responsibly, it must first be completely emptied, and the internal pressure released. That’s where the CrunchIt tool comes in. After using it to release any remaining gas and puncture the metal casing, you can safely dispose of the canister in a metal recycling container.
The CrunchIt tool also doubles as a bottle opener and can be carried attached to a carabiner. Its sharp edge is covered with a plastic protective cap, which is securely attached to the tool to ensure it doesn’t get lost during use.
If you have partially empty gas canisters at home, we recommend using the FlipFuel tool before disposing of them with the CrunchIt. This allows you to empty one fuel canister and refill another.
Usage
- Always use the CrunchIt tool outdoors or in a well-ventilated area.
- Ensure that the gas canister is nearly empty (you can use the FlipFuel or your own stove to empty it).
- Remove the protective cap from the sharp tip of the CrunchIt tool. Handle it carefully to avoid injury.
- Screw the CrunchIt tool onto the canister’s threaded valve. If there is still residual gas in the canister, it will escape through the side opening, accompanied by a hissing sound.
- Press the CrunchIt tool down onto the canister and puncture it, making several holes (ideally 3–4) with the sharp tip.
- You can flatten the empty canister before recycling it.
